Lone Star Spirits
by Josh Tobiessen
directed by Shanan Custer
This production was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Marley is hoping for a quick trip home to the dwindling Texas town where she grew up, but she and her hipster fiancé, Ben, are in for more than they bargained for. Lone Star Spirits is an unpredictable comedy that looks — with hilarious honesty and heart — at what it means to be from, stay in, and leave a small hometown...and how we deal with the ghosts we all meet along the way.

Once
by Enda Walsh, Glen Hansard, & Markéta Irglová
directed by Amanda White
musical direction by Bradley Beahen
On the streets of Dublin, an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant are drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, an unexpected friendship and collaboration quickly evolves into a powerful but complicated love story, underscored by emotionally charged music.
Building on the original movie's beloved soundtrack — and including the Oscar-winning, Top 40 hit, "Falling Slowly" — Once is a beautiful, moving, and hopeful tribute to the music in all of us.

Cesta Fest
Daleko + Patrons = Cesta!
Cesta Festival of New Plays
MAY 22 - 24, 2022
Part of the Daleko Home Invasion was a monthly YouTube show called The Script; a reality show that matched 3 Daleko patrons and their play ideas with Daleko theatre artists. This idea was eventually spun into an annual new play festival where patron creativity is matched with local playwright know-how to create a weekend of brand new plays!
2022 Cesta Patrons:
Kaitlee Fluegel
Kiffin Deihl
Joan Michel
2022 Cesta Playwrights:
Alayna Jacqueline
Cristina Luzárraga
Heather Meyer
2022 Cesta Plays (playwright/patron):
Fostering Resentment (Alayna/Kaitlee)
The Amazon Guy Cometh (Cristina/Kiffin)
The Piano (Heather/Joan)
-
DalekoArts has commissioned three local playwrights to write three full-length plays based on the patron ideas from The Script. Over a few days at the end of May, Daleko will present staged readings of each.
-
A staged reading is a rehearsed read-through of a script, performed in front of an audience. Actors are not memorized for a staged reading, and some (or all) of the stage directions are read out loud. Most of the time, a staged reading has minimal to no sets, costumes, props, etc. Check out this Wikipedia article if you'd like to know a little more.
-
Yes! You can purchase individual tickets ($10), or you can purchase a Cesta Pass ($25), which gives you admission to all three staged readings, plus a festival kick-off reception.
-
There will be one staged reading per evening of the festival — so each play will be read once.
-
The Cesta Festival will open with a festival kick-off reception at The Local 105, right across the street from the Prague Theater. There will be food, drink, mingling with Cesta artists — basically, it'll be a great time. Grab a Cesta Pass to secure your invite!
-
The plays are still being worked on — and will likely be adjusted and tweaked all the way throughout the festival — so we'll update website info as we get it.
-
Cesta is a Czech word meaning way, path, or road. It's been a long and winding one from DHI's The Script to the Cesta Festival!
